Injury Collision Involving a Vehicle Struck by a Train

(Bonnieville, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to a report of an injury collision involving a vehicle versus a train on Friday, October 16, 2015 at approx. 2:48 pm on KY 728 Priceville Road at the rail road crossing near the US 31 W intersection in Hart County.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Mariah Garcia (21) was operating a 2006 Lincoln pick up and was traveling west on KY 728 when she failed to yield for a CSX train that was traveling southbound. The passenger side of the pick up was struck by the train where it was pushed down the tracks for several feet.

Garcia was transported by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital where she is listed as critical but stable condition. An infant passenger, Armando Santiago Rocha, was transported by helicopter to Kosair Children's Hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition. An adult male passenger was transported by ambulance to the Hardin Memorial Hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition. Another adult male passenger refused treatment at the scene. Both of these subjects had not been identified at the time of this release.

The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper Graham Rutherford. He was assisted on the scene by Sgt. Tucker Carmichael, KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Nick Pruitt, Bonnieville Volunteer Fire Department, and Hart County EMS.
