Fatal Collision on KY 218

(Horse Cave, KY) - On Saturday, July 24, 2015 at approx. 8:27 pm the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call of a two vehicle injury collision on KY 218 at the intersection of Interstate 65 in Hart County.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Mauro Aguirre-Burciaga (62) of Socorro, TX was operating a 2013 Kenworth tractor trailer and was turning left from the southbound Interstate 65 exit ramp on to eastbound KY 218, but was unable to clear the westbound lane completely with his trailer before being struck by a westbound 2001 GMC truck that was being operated by Buddy Riggs (46) of Munfordville.

Riggs was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hart County Coroner Reggie Pettit at approx. 9:00 pm. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2015.

Aguirre-Burciaga was not injured and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.

The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper Justin Rountree.
