Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Louisville Man

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police has charged a Louisville man with numerous offenses after a pursuit.

On Sunday, August 9, at approximately 8:39 a.m., Trooper Sean Wint observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway at approximately the 7 mile-marker. Trooper Wint activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the motorcycle. The operator disregarded Tpr. Wint's emergency equipment and accelerated in an attempt to flee.

The motorcycle continued to flee northbound on the parkway until it exited at Crofton. Trooper Wint lost sight of the motorcycle around Fire Tower Road in Crofton.

At approximately 9:32 a.m., Trooper First Class Jerry Knight located the motorcycle on the KY 189 Bypass in Greenville. Tfc. Knight activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the motorcycle. Again, the operator disregarded the emergency equipment and fled. Tfc. Knight lost sight of the motorcycle around Second Baptist Church.

At approximately 9:53 a.m., the Greenville Police Department located the operator on foot on South Main Street in Greenville. The operator was taken into custody without further incident.

The operator, identified as Jerry B. Owens, 43, Louisville, KY, was lodged in the Christian County Jail and charged with the following offenses by Tpr. Wint:

  1. Speeding 20 MPH Over – Limited Access Highway
  2. Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  3. Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (6 counts)
  4. Theft of Motor Vehicle Registration Plate
  5. DUI 2nd Offense (Aggravating Circumstances)
  6. No Registration Plate
  7. No Registration Receipt
  8. Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance 1st
  9. Operating on a Suspended License
  10. Execution of Warrant for Other Agency (Failure to Appear)
  11. Fugitive from Another State

Tfc. Knight charged Mr. Owens with the following offenses:

  1. Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  2. Failure To/Improper Signal
  3. Reckless Driving
  4. Improper Passing
  5. No Registration Plate
  6. No Registration Receipt
  7. Failure of Owner to Maintain Insurance
  8. Operating on a Suspended License

The Greenville Police Department, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, and Troopers Jonathan Murphy and Ben Sawyer assisted.
