Non-Injury Collision on I-24 in Lyon County

(Hickory, KY.) - David Long's unoccupied commercial motor vehicle was laying on its side in the west bound lane of I-24 at the 42 mile marker. Long's vehicle had just been involved in a collision in the east bound lanes of I-24 at the 42 mile marker. Bill Carter's commercial motor vehicle was west bound on I-24 approaching the 42 mile marker and observed another commercial vehicle in front of him make an abrupt lane change and brake. Carter began to brake in response to the vehicle in front of him. Carter's vehicle then began to jack knife and he counter steered into the left lane. Carter then collided with Long's vehicle. Long's vehicle was not occupied at the time of the collision. Carter was not injured. The collision is being investigated by Senior Trooper Nathan Clinkenbeard. Kentucky State Police Post 1 was assisted by Eddyville Fire Department, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways.

One Killed in a Collision on I-24 in Lyon County

(Hickory, KY.) - David Long was operating a 2006 Freightliner east on I-24 at the 42 MM and was attempting to make an illegal U-turn through the median. Long's trailer was blocking both east bound lanes and Wayne Woodham, who was operating a 1998 Kenworth east on I-24, struck the rear of Long's trailer. Both units came to final rest in the median. Woodham was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lyon County Coroner's Office. The east bound lanes of I-24 were closed for approximately 5 hours. The collision is being investigated by The Post 1 Collision Analysis Team. KSP was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways, Lyon County EMS, Kuttawa and Eddyville Fire Departments.
