Cadiz Man Arrested
Date of News Release: 02/27/2015
(Cadiz, KY) - On 02/27/2015 at 10:38 am, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) were requested to assist the Trigg County Sheriff's Department and Cadiz Police Department with an incident on Virginia Circle in Cadiz. The investigation revealed police received a report of a female victim who had been allegedly threatened by Brandon Skunza (29) of Cadiz. Skunza allegedly made threats to kill the female, who was also in the accompaniment of her two minor children at the time. Skunza was reportedly armed, and had assaulted the female during a dispute.
Upon arrival of local law enforcement, Skunza refused to acknowledge police, and would not exit the home. KSP responded and attempted to establish further communications with Skunza. Police determined the victim and her two minor children were still alive and inside the home, but Skunza would allegedly not allow her to leave. Skunza refused to respond to numerous attempts by police to establish contact with him.
Due to safety concerns, local law enforcement with the assistance of other first responders began voluntary evacuations of the immediate area, as this was a residential community. A KSP Special Response Team was dispatched to the scene from central Kentucky via a KSP Aircraft. Prior to their arrival at the scene, around at 12:19 pm, Skunza communicated with Trooper First Class Lewie Dodd via a telephone. Skunza subsequently surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident after speaking with TFC Dodd.
Police entered the home and found the victim and her two children. All three were transported to the Trigg County Hospital by Trigg County EMS for evaluation, whereby the mother was treated for apparent, multiple injuries to her person. A search warrant was executed upon the residence where Troopers collected physical evidence relating to the incident. Skunza was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for Assault in the Fourth Degree. In addition, he faces possible unlawful imprisonment charges and drug charges.
Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Trigg County Sheriff's Department, Cadiz Police Department, Trigg County Police, Trigg County EMS, Trigg County Rescue, the Cadiz Street Department, and Trigg County Road Department. In addition, the Department of Community Based Services is assisting KSP with this investigation. Skunza will be lodged in the Christian County Jail.
Note: KSP does not release the names of domestic violence victims; thus, the victim and children involved in this incident will not be identified by this agency.
