Date of News Release: 07/06/2015
(Carbon Glow, KY) - A Blackey woman died Sunday evening following a single vehicle collision on Highway 7 in the Carbon Glow community if Letcher County. Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 and Letcher Ambulance Service responded to the scene after being dispatched around 5:12 p.m.
Investigators initially determined that a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling south on KY 7, when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car overturned several times before coming to rest on an embankment adjacent to a rail road track. The operator of the car, 45 year old Lesa F. Slone of Blackey, was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Letcher County Coroner Marty Baker. A passenger in the car, 32 year old David D. Fields, was transported to the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.
Wet road conditions appear to have contributed to this collision, and impairment is not suspected. Trooper Scott Caudill with KSP Post 13 is continuing this investigation.
