Update: Kentucky State Police Investigate Pursuit and Shooting in Anderson County

(Frankfort, KY.) - On December 22, 2015 the Anderson County Grand Jury returned an indictment for John Tomkins, age 35, of Danville, KY. John Tomkins was involved in a pursuit that lead to an officer involved shooting with a Lawrenceburg Police Department Officer, on November 27, 2015.
The charges on the indictment are as follows:
- Attempted Murder of a Police Officer
- Assault 1st
- Fleeing/Evading 1st Degree
- Wanton Endangerment 1st (2 Counts)
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun
- Possession of a Defaced Firearm
- Possession of Marijuana
- Reckless Driving
- Operating on a Suspended Operators License
- No Insurance
- Persistent Felony Offender
John Tomkins is still recovering in a local Lexington hospital under guard by the Kentucky State Police. John Tomkins will be arraigned on these charges upon his release.

Kentucky State Police Investigate Pursuit and Shooting in Anderson County

(Frankfort, KY.) - Kentucky State Police are investigating a pursuit leading to an officer involved shooting by Lawrenceburg Police Department. At approximately 8:42 a.m., a Lawrenceburg Police Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on US 127 bypass with in Lawrenceburg City limits. The vehicle, a red Chevrolet Extreme pickup truck, fled from police, onto KY Hwy 62 east. Anderson County Sheriff's Department was requested to assist in the 10 mile pursuit. At the 1300 block of Ballard Road, the suspect vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a green Chevy Silverado pickup headon. As officers approached the suspect vehicle, the driver displayed a handgun. Lawrenceburg police fired one shot, striking the suspect.
Both the suspect and the driver of the Silverado were airlifted to the University of Kentucky hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time. No officers were injured in the incident.
Charges are pending.
Kentucky State Police, Post 12 Frankfort, are investigating the incident.
Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by Anderson County Sheriff's Department, Air Methods, Anderson County EMS and Anderson County Fire Department.
