Update: Kentucky State Police Investigate Pursuit and Shooting in Anderson County

(Frankfort, KY.) - The Lawrenceburg Police Officer involved in the November 27th incident is Officer Clay Crouch. The suspect, John Tompkins, age 35, of Danville, KY, remains at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Upon release, the following charges against John Tompkins are pending: Attempted Murder of a Police Officer (1 count), Assault 1st (1 count), Wanton Endangerment 1st (2 counts), Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Fleeing and Evading 1st, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, and Possession of Marijuana.

Federal charges pending.

The investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police Post 12, Frankfort.

Kentucky State Police Investigate Pursuit and Shooting in Anderson County

Date of News Release: 11/27/2015

(Frankfort, KY.) - Kentucky State Police are investigating a pursuit leading to an officer involved shooting by Lawrenceburg Police Department. At approximately 8:42 a.m., a Lawrenceburg Police Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on US 127 bypass with in Lawrenceburg City limits. The vehicle, a red Chevrolet Extreme pickup truck, fled from police, onto KY Hwy 62 east. Anderson County Sheriff's Department was requested to assist in the 10 mile pursuit. At the 1300 block of Ballard Road, the suspect vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a green Chevy Silverado pickup headon. As officers approached the suspect vehicle, the driver displayed a handgun. Lawrenceburg police fired one shot, striking the suspect.

Both the suspect and the driver of the Silverado were airlifted to the University of Kentucky hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time. No officers were injured in the incident.

Charges are pending.

Kentucky State Police, Post 12 Frankfort, are investigating the incident.

Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by Anderson County Sheriff's Department, Air Methods, Anderson County EMS and Anderson County Fire Department.
