Collision Leaves One Injured

(Sunshine, Ky.) - A Dayhoit man was injured in a single-vehicle collision in the Sunshine Community of Harlan County.

Kentucky State Police Post 10 received the 911 call on Thursday, January 15, 2015 shortly after 8:00 p.m. KSP troopers Kevin Miller and Andy Soltess arrived on scene within minutes. According to the investigation, Brandon Allen McCoun, age 22, was traveling northbound on KY 3459 in a 2008 Chrysler 300. As Mr. McCoun crossed the railroad crossing near Industrial Park Road, he lost control and struck a tree head-on. The initial caller indicated that Mr. McCoun was trapped inside of his vehicle. Harlan City Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted in removing him from the vehicle. He was transported to Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital by Harlan EMS. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Mr. McCoun has been charged with Operating Motor Vehicle under Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, 1st offense, No Insurance, Possession of Marijuana less than 8 ounces, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and numerous other traffic charges. He was cited to court due to the extent of his injuries.

The collision investigation continues by Trooper Miller.
