Officer Involved Shooting on Right Fork Island Creek, Pike County

(Right Fork Island Creek, Pikeville, Ky.) - On Wednesday February 26, 2014 Post 9 Pikeville received a call of an assault complaint on Island Creek in Pike County. Troopers responded to the scene and made contact with a male subject that had been stabbed. After contacting this subject Troopers were dispatched to a shots fired complaint on the right Fork of Island Creek. As Troopers approached the residence, 53 year old James D. Sallette came out of his residence, brandished a firearm and made threats to the Troopers. Troopers at the scene gave several verbal commands for Sallette to drop his firearm. Sallette refused to obey verbal commands and pointed his firearm at the Troopers. At this time, Troopers fired their weapons. Sallette was transported to Pikeville Medical Center for gunshot wounds. No Troopers were injured during this incident. It was later determined that Sallette was the perpetrator of the stabbing and Sallette was charged with Assault 1st Degree. Charges for Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree-Police Officer, Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree and Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon are being filed. Officers involved in this incident are: Tpr. Ryan Hamilton, Tpr. Jamie Rose, Tpr. Derek Coleman and Tpr. Adam Wright. This incident remains under investigation by KSP Lt. Jennifer Sandlin.
