Date of News Release: 01/24/2014
(Floyd County, Ky.) - On Thursday January 23, 2014 Post 9, Pikeville conducted a Safe School training for the staff of Duff Elementary and Allen Central Middle School. Supervisors and Troopers from Post 9 traveled to Floyd County to train educators on how to prepare active shooting survival situations. In the wake of recent school violence, Kentucky State Police with input from school administrators across the state, have developed a program aimed at helping all schools respond effectively during an active shooting incident. The programs consists of four levels of KSP Assistance to aid school officials in establishing the own action plans. School administrators can choose any one or all four levels of the assistance being offered.
The two schools had a combined number of sixty nine participants taking part in the training. The school administrators and educators were very receptive on receiving training on how to better protect the lives of their children and themselves. This is an opportunity for Kentucky State Police to provide input on the safety of the schools across the Commonwealth, our educators and our children.
