Fire Investigation in Bath County

(Owingsville, KY) - On Sunday January 5, 2013 at 1:18 a.m. Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call from Bath County Dispatch in reference to a fire at 4224 East Highway 36 in Bath County. The Owingsville Fire Department along with Kentucky State Police Troopers responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Susan Hicks, 69 of Owingsville, was located outside of the residence. She advised first responders that her husband, Scottie Hicks, 73 of Owingsville was still inside the residence. Fire fighters on scene were able to rescue Mr. Hicks from the residence. Mrs. Hicks was transported to Saint Joseph East Hospital in Mount Sterling, KY where she was treated and released for smoke inhalation. Mr. Hicks was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY where he was last listed in critical condition. The fire cause is undetermined. The fire remains under investigation by Detective Shane Barnes and the Kentucky State Fire Marshall's Office.
