KSP Investigates an Injury Collision in Madison County

(Richmond, KY) - The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is investigating an injury collision that occurred at 1546 Battlefield Memorial Highway (US-421 South) in Madison County, just after 9:30 am this morning.
Initial investigation has revealed that a RV was driving south on Battlefield Memorial Highway when the driver, James Mullins, 79 years old of Waynesville, OH, lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve. The RV sideswiped a dump truck, owned by the Allen Company, before driving off the roadway. The RV then drove through a ditch, struck a low lying tree branch, and hit a rock fence before coming to rest back in the middle of the highway. Mullins was pinned in his vehicle by the tree branch and had to be removed by rescue personnel. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Battlefield Memorial Highway was closed and traffic was rerouted onto Berea Road until 1:15 pm when the collision scene was cleaned up.
Trooper Toney Allen is the investigating officer and was assisted at the scene by the KSP Post 7 personnel, Madison County EMS, Madison County Fire & Rescue, Bluegrass Army Depot Fire Department, and the Bluegrass Army Depot Security.
