Child Safety Event Scheduled for Jackson County
Date of News Release: 06/18/2014
(Richmond, KY.) - The Kentucky State Police and Cumberland Valley Area Development District (CVADD) will be at the Jackson County Health Department in McKee, KY on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Child Safety Event is free to the public and is designed to raise awareness on the proper installation of child safety seats. KSP and CVADD personnel will be assisting parents and guardians install and check the child's safety seats. There will also be an opportunity to complete a Child Identification Sheet that can assist law enforcement if a child is ever abducted or missing.
Kentucky state law requires that any child less than 40 inches tall must be in a child and/or infant safety seat. The law also requires that any child under seven years of age or between 40 and 50 inches tall must be in a booster seat. Unfortunately, statistics show that 7 out of 10 child safety seats are improperly installed. So far this year, 254 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways, and 6 of these were children less than 10 years old.
The KSP, Richmond Post, provides coverage for Madison, Clark, Estill, Lee, Owsley, Jackson, Mercer, Boyle, Lincoln, Garrard and Jessamine counties.
