Three Flown to Hospitals After Trimble County Crash

Date of News Release: 01/22/2014

(Bedford, KY) - Three people were flown by helicopters to local hospitals yesterday afternoon (1/21) after a crash on Highway 42 in Trimble County. Troopers responded to the crash after KSP Post 5 dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 3:30 p.m. Preliminary investigation shows that three vehicles were traveling west on Highway 42 when an F-150 in the back of the line, driven by 18 year old Bayleigh Smith of Bedford, KY, pulled out to attempt to pass the other two vehicles. The second vehicle in the line, driven by 48 year old Susan Jones of Milton, KY, pulled out to pass the front vehicle as Smith was passing her. Jones' vehicle struck Smith's F-150, forcing it off the roadway. Smith's truck travelled off the roadway and struck a tree. Smith was flown by Air Methods, Inc. to the University of Louisville for non-life threatening injuries. Two juvenile passengers in Smith's vehicle were flown by Air Methods, Inc. to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville for non-life threatening injuries. Jones and a passenger in her vehicle were not injured. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.

Trooper Chad Johnson is leading the investigation into the crash. Trooper Johnson was assisted at the scene by the Trimble County Sheriff's Office, Trimble County EMS, Milton Fire Department, and the Bedford Fire Department.
