Injury Collision Involving a CSX Train

(Bowling Green, KY.) - On Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:09 a.m Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to the intersection of Concord Church Road and J.L. Thomas Road at the CSX Railroad Crossing in reference to an injury collision involving a CSX train.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Hope Wheeler, 21 of Bonnieville was traveling east in her 2014 Chevy Impala when she attempted to cross over the railroad tracks. As Ms. Wheeler started across the tracks she failed to see the northbound CSX train. The CSX train struck Ms. Wheeler's vehicle in the right side sending it into a 180 degree left spin as it exited the west side of the railroad tracks. The vehicle then rolled completely over before coming to a final rest. The vehicle came to a final rest upright facing west between J. L. Thomas Road and the railroad tracks.
Ms. Wheeler was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision. Ms. Wheeler was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital by the Air Methods Helicopter where she is being treated for life threatening injuries.
The investigation is being lead by Trooper First Class Joel Huff. Trooper Huff was assisted on the scene by Trooper First Class Jonathan McChesney, Hart County Sheriff's Department, Air Methods Helicopter, Hart County EMS, the Bonnieville and Munfordville Fire Departments, and Stanton's Garage.
