Pursuit Leads To Arrest

Dawson Springs, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police arrested a Mount Pleasant, TN man after a vehicle pursuit which lasted approximately ten minutes.
On Sunday, December 7, 2014, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the KSP Post 2 Madisonville received a complaint of a reckless driver southbound on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway. Trooper Joe Bartolotti observed the vehicle traveling southbound in excess of 100 mph and attempted to initiate a traffic stop as the vehicle ramped onto Interstate 69 southbound.
Trooper Bartolotti activated his emergency equipment; however, the suspect vehicle continued to flee southbound on I-69. The suspect vehicle exited at Dawson Springs and turned northbound onto KY 109 where it became disabled due to mechanical issues.
The driver, Danny R. Potts, 38, of Mount Pleasant, TN, was taken into custody without further incident.
Mr. Potts was charged with the following offenses:
- Speeding 26 MPH or More Over the Limit
- Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Reckless Driving
- Disregarding a Stop Sign
- DUI 1st Offense
- Operating on a Suspended Operator's License
- Possession of Open Alcoholic Container Prohibited in Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Wear Seatbelt
He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
Trooper Bartolotti was assisted by Sergeant Nick Rice, Sergeant Tim Sales, Trooper Curtis Crick, the Dawson Springs Police Department, and the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department.
