Update To Shooting Involving MCSO Deputy

Madisonville, KY. - On Thursday, September 11, 2014, at approximately 11:10 a.m. CST, KSP Sergeant Derek Smith executed several arrest warrants on Jesse L. Hailey, 29, of Mayfield, KY.

Mr. Hailey was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Attempted Murder of a Police Officer (KSP Warrant)
  2. Robbery 1st Degree – 2 counts (GPD/MCITF Warrant)
  3. Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon (GPD/MCITF Warrant)
  4. Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (GPD/MCITF Warrant)

Mr. Hailey remains at the University of Louisville Hospital listed in critical, but stable condition. He is currently under guard until he is cleared to be released.

The investigation is continuing by Sgt. Derek Smith.

KSP Investigates Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department Officer Involved Shooting

Central City, KY (Muhlenberg County) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a shooting that involved the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department that occurred in the city limits of Central City.

On Saturday, August 30, 2014, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the KSP Post 2 Madisonville was contacted by the Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch in reference to an officer involved shooting that occurred on South 2nd Street in Central City.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Jesse Hailey, 29, of Mayfield, KY, and passenger Kristi Copeland, 33, of Wingo, KY. During the stop, Mr. Hailey attempted to drive the vehicle over the Deputy. The Deputy fired his service weapon and struck Mr. Hailey.

Mr. Hailey was transported to Muhlenberg Community Hospital, and later transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN, where he currently remains. Ms. Copeland was transported to Muhlenberg Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries sustained in the altercation. She was released and transported to the Muhlenberg County Detention Center where she was lodged for active warrants. The Deputy was not injured and no other injuries were reported.

KSP Sergeant Derek Smith is continuing the investigation. KSP Post 2 units, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, Greenville Police Department, Central City Police Department, and Central City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
