Single Vehicle Injury Collision On I-24

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on Interstate 24, at approximately the 78 mile-marker, on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at 2:00 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Gamaliel Martinez-Chavez, 34, of Laverne, TN, was operating a 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup truck westbound on I-24 when his vehicle experienced a tire failure. The vehicle exited the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a ditch where it came to rest.

Mr. Martinez-Chavez and his wife, Antonia Villeda, 29, were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. One of their children, Miranda Chavez, 6, was transported via ambulance to the Gateway Medical Center for treatment. She was wearing a seatbelt. Their other child, Yariztsa Chavez, 3, was secured in a child restraint and was not injured.

Trooper Luis Palmer investigated the collision. Lieutenant Jason Newby and Christian County EMS assisted at the scene.
