Single-Vehicle Injury Collision on Interstate 24

Hopkinsville (Christian Co.) - On Saturday, 05-10-2014, Cynthia Tharp of Smithton, IL was operating a 2005 Mazda Tribute on Interstate 24 around the 81 mile marker eastbound at approximately 08:26am when she veered off onto the left shoulder of the roadway and struck several construction cones. She continued to travel off onto the left shoulder of the roadway for approximately 120 feet before overcorrecting the vehicle. This collision occurred in a construction zone where there is a concrete pad that runs the length of the inside shoulder. Her front tires struck this concrete pad causing the vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its top on the left shoulder of the roadway. The driver was able to exit the vehicle but her passenger had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Both occupants were transported by ambulance to Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville Tennessee as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
