Two-Vehicle Fatal Collision On KY 109

Dawson Springs, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle, fatal collision that occurred on KY 109 in the city limits of Dawson Springs, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 6:45 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Starla Garwood, 37, of Dawson Springs, KY, was operating a 1999 Toyota Solara northbound on KY 109. Emily Baird, 19, of Dawson Springs, KY, was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on KY 109. For unknown reasons Mrs. Garwood entered the southbound lane striking Ms. Baird in a head on manner.
Mrs. Garwood was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Hopkins County Coroner, Dennis Mayfield. Ms. Baird was transported to Baptist Health in Madisonville via Med Center Ambulance for treatment to her injuries.
The collision was investigated by Trooper Joseph Bartolotti, Unit 325. Trooper Bartolotti was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Nick Rice, Unit 171, the Dawson Springs Police Department, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, Dawson Springs Fire Rescue, and Med Center Ambulance.
