Non-Injury Collision Involving a Train on Kelly Church Road

Date of News Release: 03/05/2014

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a non-injury collision involving a train that occurred on Kelly Church Road on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 5:35 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Kimberly A. Fernandez, 33, of Hopkinsville, KY, was operating a 2001 Mercury Cougar eastbound on Kelly Church Road when she attempted to cross the railroad tracks. Due to the icy road conditions, the vehicle became stuck on the railroad tracks. Shortly after, a train began to approach the intersection. Ms. Fernandez was able to remove her two juvenile children and herself and move to a safe distance before the train struck the vehicle.

Ms. Fernandez and her children were not injured. Kelly church road was shut down for a short time to allow for the removal of the vehicle. The train remained in service.

Trooper Ryan Fox investigated the collision. Sergeant Tim Sales and CSX assisted at the scene.
