Fugitive Arrested After Altercation With Troopers

Madisonville, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police arrested a Madisonville man and his girlfriend after he fled from troopers.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2014, the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville received information that Joseph B. Larkins, a fugitive with felony warrants, was at the Days Inn in Madisonville, KY. At approximately 9:20 p.m., Trooper Jonathan Murphy and Trooper Cody Kromer arrived at the scene.

Upon seeing the troopers, Mr. Larkins fled, on foot, out a back door of the hotel into a densely wooded area. Mr. Larkins failed to comply with the troopers' verbal commands and actively resisted arrest, leading to an altercation with the troopers.

Mr. Larkins was apprehended. He was transported to Baptist Health Madisonville where he was treated for minor injuries. Both troopers were also treated for minor injuries sustained in the altercation.

Trooper Kromer charged Mr. Larkins, 32, of Madisonville, KY, with the following offenses:

  1. 2 counts of Assault 3rd Degree - Police Officer
  2. Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree (On Foot)
  3. Resisting Arrest
  4. 3 counts of Executing Warrant for Court

Trooper Murphy charged Kristen N. Bartlett, 20, of Madisonville, KY, with the following offenses:

  1. Hindering Prosecution/Apprehension
  2. Alcohol Intoxication
  3. Resisting Arrest
  4. Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree

Both individuals were lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
