KSP make arrest after pursuit

(HICKORY, KY.) - On June 16, 2014 the Kentucky State Police was attempting to locate a Nissan Altima for the Fulton County Sheriff's Department. Trooper Johnathan Coppersmith observed a silver 2006 Nissan Altima traveling south on Martin Luther King Drive. Trooper Coppersmith observed the operator commit multiple traffic violations and attempted to stop the violator. The operator of the vehicle attempted to elude the Trooper and then came to a stop on Vanlea Drive. The suspect, later identified as Earl J. Flanigan, exited the vehicle and ran on foot. Trooper Coppersmith pursued Mr. Flanigan approximately 200 yards before the he lost his footing. Trooper Coppersmith was able to control the fleeing felon after he deployed his taser and then placed him under arrest. The vehicle in question was similar to the vehicle that the Sheriff's Department was looking for however; this was a different vehicle. Mr. Flanigan was charged with fleeing and evading police 1st degree (motor vehicle), fleeing and evading police 1st degree (on foot), disregarding a stop sign, failure to or improper signal, DUI 1st, operating on suspended/revoked operator's license, no registration receipt, and no registration plate. The Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Fulton County Sheriff's Department and the Fulton City Police Department.
