KSP works double Fatality in Carlisle County

(Arlington, KY) - The Kentucky State Police responded to a fatal vehicle collision on May 19, 2014 at approximately 6:33 P.M. The single vehicle collision occurred around the 2 mile marker on US 51 just north of Arlington.
Preliminary investigation shows Peter A. Jones, 21 of Arlington, operating a 1995 Dodge pickup traveling south on US 51. Zachary S. Nelson, 20 of Clinton, was a passenger in the truck. Jones overcorrected his vehicle, when the right side went off the roadway for an unknown reason. The pickup traveled across the roadway running off the left side and struck an embankment, which caused the vehicle to overturn. Jones was ejected from the vehicle and Nelson was partially ejected during the collision.
Nelson was pronounced dead on the scene by the Carlisle County Coroner's Office. Jones was air lifted to St Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO where he later died as a result of his injuries. Both occupants were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision and alcohol use is suspected.
Trooper Jonathan Coppersmith was assisted on the scene by the Carlisle County Sheriff's Department, Carlisle County Rescue Squad, Carlisle County Ambulance Service, Arlington Fire Department, Carlisle County Coroner's Office, KSP Collision Reconstructionist SGT Joey Adams, and KSP Collision Reconstructionist Trooper Eric Fields. Trooper Coppersmith is continuing his investigation into the collision.
