One dead in residential fire in Trigg County

(Cadiz, Ky.) - Kentucky State Police Post 1 received a call from Trigg County dispatch advising of a residential structure fire on Rocky Ridge Road at approximately 02:00 A.M. on January 17, 2014. A neighbor noticed the fire and called Trigg County dispatch. After firefighters from Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department arrived and learned that someone might still be inside they contacted the KY State Fire Marshall's Office and the Kentucky State Police.
After fire personnel extinguished the fire, the body of Dorothy C. Mitchell 75, of Cadiz was located inside. An autopsy was performed this morning at the Western Kentucky Medical examiner's office in Madisonville, KY. The medical examiner ruled Mitchell died due to smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, however no foul play is suspected at this time. The Kentucky State Police were assisted on the scene by the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department, Trigg County Sheriff's Office, Trigg County Coroner, and the Kentucky State Fire Marshall's Office. The investigation continues by Detective Kyle Nall, Detective Frank Gresham, and the Kentucky State Fire Marshall.
