Marion County Injury Collision

(Lebanon, KY.) - Tpr. Chase Willis is investigating a collision that occurred at 1:31 this morning (4/5/14) at the intersection of JR Fields Rd and Scotts Ridge Rd in Marion County. 18-year-old Dakota Mattingly of Lebanon was traveling north in the southbound lane of Scotts Ridge Rd, operating a 2000 Nissan. 18-year-old Jacob Smith of Lebanon was traveling north in the northbound lane operating a 2002 Subaru. The 2 teens were racing.

At the junction of JR Fields Rd, the Nissan and Subaru collided causing the Subaru to spin around in the roadway, cross the centerline, exit the roadway, strike a tree and overturn. Smith was flown from the scene to U of L Hospital. Passengers in his vehicle, 18-year-old Michael Wimsett and 16-year-old Kyle Edlin, both of Lebanon, were also flown to U of L. A 4th passenger, 18-year-old Anthony Firment, of Raywick, was flown from the scene to University of Kentucky Hospital. All are listed in stable condition.

All persons involved in the collision were not wearing seatbetls. Tpr. Willis was assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff's Department, Marion County Fire, EMS and Rescue. The collision remains under investigation.
