Fatal Collision in Carter County

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a collision that occurred yesterday afternoon around 5:11 pm on Old Sawmill Road in Carter County, KY. A sixteen year old juvenile was operating a 1997 Chevy S10 and traveling East on Old Sawmill Road. Control of the vehicle was lost and impact occurred with a tree which resulted in the vehicle overturning. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and did not receive any injuries. Alcohol/Drug usage is not suspected as a contributing factor to the collision.
Sean Johnson, age 20, of Grayson, KY was a passenger in the front of the vehicle. Johnson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and did not receive any injuries.
A fifteen year old juvenile passenger in the bed of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The juvenile received fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Carter County Coroner George Sparks.
At this time the names of the involved juveniles will not be released until the investigation has been completed.
The Carter County Sheriff's Department, Carter County EMS, Grayson Fire Department, Grayson Police Department and Carter County Coroner's Office assisted with the investigation.
