Student Detained After Social Media Threat

(Hazard, KY) - A juvenile is in custody after it was determined that threats were made toward students and faculty at Leslie County High School via social media. Detectives with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call earlier this week advising that someone had posted several threatening messages on Twitter, suggesting that firearms would be brought to the school and utilized when classes resumed on January 5th. The threats appeared to be general in nature, not specifying particular students or staff.
Detectives began a thorough investigation which led them to a student enrolled at Leslie County High School. The student was charged with one count of Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree and was lodged in the Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center. All personal information remains confidential due to the offender being a juvenile. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Vicki Day with KSP Post 13.
