Date of News Release: 12/28/2014
(Colson, KY) - A woman was fatally injured after being struck by a car in the Colson community of Letcher County. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call at approximately 9:33p.m. Saturday evening, advising that a car had struck a pedestrian on KY Highway 7, in Colson. Troopers, along with members of Neon EMS responded to the scene.
Initially the victim, 47 year old Connie Meade of Colson, was observed lying deceased in the northbound lane of HWY 7. Further investigation determined that a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by 22 year old Brittany Gross of Whitesburg, was traveling south on HWY 7, when the vehicle struck Connie Meade, who was apparently lying in the roadway. The collision occurred in the southbound lane, but the victim came to rest in the northbound lane. It has yet to be determined why Connie Meade was in the roadway, but foul play is not suspected at this time.
Impairment of the driver is not believed to have been a contributing factor in this collision, though toxicology results are pending. An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for today at the State Medical Examiner's office in Frankfort. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Randy Combs with KSP Post 13.
