One Man Shot, One Jailed After Argument in Knott County

Date of News Release: 10/01/2014

(Topmost, KY) - An argument between two Knott County men Wednesday morning has resulted in one being treated for a gunshot injury, and the other incarcerated. At approximately 8:38 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call that a man had been shot in the parking lot of the Big S Market in the Topmost community of Knott County. KSP personnel responded to the scene along with members of the Knott County Sheriff's Department and Trans Star Ambulance. There they located fifty-nine year old Tim Terry of Kite, with a single gunshot wound to his lower left abdominal area. He was transported to McDowell ARH, then later to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicates that Tim Terry and Henry Shane Thornsberry, age thirty-eight of Kite, encountered each other at the Big S Market, and became involved in a confrontation. Thornsberry produced a firearm and shot Terry once, before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. He was later located at a residence on KY 582 in Kite, and was arrested without incident.

Henry Shane Thornsberry is charged with one count each of Assault 1st Degree and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He is currently lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail. This incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective Chris Collins.
