Gunshot Injuries the Result of Domestic Altercation in Letcher County

(Mayking, KY) - An argument between family members at a residence on Cram Creek, in the Mayking community of Letcher County, resulted in one man being hospitalized for treatment of gunshot wounds.
On Sunday evening, August 24, at approximately 10:51 p.m., Kentucky State Police personnel responded to a residence on KY Highway 3410 in Mayking, after receiving a call that David Fugate JR had been shot by his father, David Fugate SR. Investigators were initially advised by individuals at the scene that David Fugate JR had arrived at his parent's residence and became involved in an argument with his mother, Jackie Fugate. A female acquaintance attempted to intervene, at which time she and Jackie Fugate were allegedly assaulted by David Fugate JR. It was then advised that David Fugate JR allegedly began approaching his father, David Fugate SR, in a threatening manner, at which time David Fugate SR fired a handgun, injuring David Fugate JR. David Fugate JR was transported by helicopter to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.
No charges have been filed at this time, and this incident will be presented to the Letcher County Grand Jury as soon as possible. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Clayton Stamper with KSP Post 13.
