Collision on HWY 15 Leaves Knott County Man Dead

(Cody, KY) - A two vehicle collision on Highway 15 in Knott County has left one man dead. Kentucky State Police Post 13 is currently investigating the collision that occurred at the intersection of Highway 160, at approximately 2:44 p.m., in the Cody community of Knott County.

KSP Troopers and other first responders arrived at the scene in response to this collision. It was determined that a 2005 Ford SUV, driven by seventy-six year old Johnny Childers, of Red Fox, was attempting to turn left into the southbound lane of KY 15. The vehicle pulled into the path of a 2001 International commercial vehicle, which was northbound on KY 15, resulting in the collision. The driver of the International, forty year old Michael Holcomb of Mayking, received minor injuries. He was transported to Hazard ARH, where he was treated and released. Johnny Childers was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County Coroner.

Mr. Childers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of this collision. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in this collision, though toxicology reports are pending. This collision investigation is being conducted by Tpr. Brandon Thomas with KSP Post 13.
