Overturned Semi Causes Extended Shutdown of I64W in Shelby County

(Frankfort, KY) - On Sunday June 8, 2013 at approximately 2:13 P.M., Kentucky State Police responded to a single vehicle non-injury collision which occurred on I64W at the 28 mile marker.

A 2011 Freightliner Tractor Trailer, driven by John S. Gregory, of Winden, GA, dropped off the westbound shoulder of the roadway, causing his vehicle to overturn. The tractor trailer came to rest in the westbound ditch line. The tractor trailer's cargo, plywood material, was scattered across the I64 westbound lanes. During the collision, a diesel tank was torn from the vehicle, landing in an adjacent creek.

No one was injured in the incident.

The effected roadway is expected to remain closed for a minimum of 6-8 hours for cleanup.

Assisting KSP at the scene was Simpsonville Police Department, Simpsonville Fire Department, Shelbyville Fire Department, Shelby County Emergency Management, Commonwealth of Kentucky Division of Water, Kentucky Transportation Department and Shelbyville Police Department.
