Injury Collision on U.S. 421 in Baxter, KY

(Baxter, Ky.) - A two-vehicle collision on U.S. 421 on Pine Mountain has left one injured. The collision, which occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday near the "Hanging Rock" at Baxter, closed the highway for nearly an hour.
According to Trooper Kenny Abner, Kaylin Collins, 24, of Putney, KY was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Impala traveling northbound on U.S. 421. Bernd Gruner, 60, of Helton, KY was operating a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina which was traveling southbound. Mr. Gruner's vehicle slid on a patch of ice in a curve causing him to lose control. Mr. Gruner was unable to correct his vehicle and crossed the centerline, striking Ms. Collins' vehicle head-on. Ms. Collins' vehicle came to final rest against the guardrail. Ms. Collins was transported to Harlan ARH in a private vehicle were her condition is unknown at this time. Mr. Gruner was uninjured in the collision. Both operators were wearing seatbelts.
This collision is being investigated by Tpr. Abner. He was assisted on scene by troopers Josh Brashears and Brandon Burton. Bledsoe Fire Department was also summoned to the scene to assist with traffic control.
