Harlan County Fatal

(Harlan, Ky.) - On September 7th, 2014 at approximately 9:00 p.m. Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call in reference to a two vehicle collision on U S Highway 421 in the Chevrolet community of Harlan County. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2014 Chevrolet Impala operated by Clifton Jeffers, 79, of Harlan, Ky was traveling North on U S Hwy 421 and crossed over the double yellow line striking a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier operated by James Osborne, 69, of Cawood, Ky traveling South head on. Mr. Osborne was pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Jim Rich.
The operator of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala, Clifton Jeffers, was transported to Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital and later flown to Holsten Valley Medical Center in Tn. Jim Gray, 43, of Cawood, Ky was a passenger in the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier and he was also transported to Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital and later flown to Holsten Valley Medical Center in Tn.
The collision remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Master Trooper Michael Cornett.
