Update: Former Teacher arrested in Harlan County

Date of News Release: 06/04/2014

(Evarts, Ky.) - On June 2nd Detective Miller from Post 10 Harlan presented this case to the Harlan County Grand Jury. Mr. Crider was arrested and served with the indictment warrants on June 3, 2014 and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

Mr. Crider is charged with the following:

  • Eight counts distribute obscene material to minors
  • 17 counts of distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor
  • 38 counts of distribution of obscene material
  • Three counts of use of a minor u/16 in a sex performance
  • One count of solicitation of use of a minor u/16 in a sex performance
  • Seven counts of use minor to distribute matter portraying a sex performance by minor
  • Seven counts possess/ views matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor
  • Three counts of promoting sex performance by a minor u/16 YOA
  • One count solicitation of promoting sex performance by a minor u/16 YOA

Former Teacher arrested in Harlan County

Date of News Release: 04/02/2014

(Evarts, Ky.) - On April 2, 2014 Detectives with the Kentucky State Police post in Harlan executed a search warrant at the home of former Harlan Independent School teacher, Kevin S. Crider, 41, of Evarts. Detectives Craig Miller, Josh Howard, and Jason Joseph removed several pieces of computer/ electronic equipment from the residence as a result of the search. Crider was arrested and has been charged with eight counts of Distribution of Obscene Matter to Minors, fifteen counts of Distribution of Matter Portraying Sexual Performance by a Minor, and one count of Use of Electronic Device to Entice a Minor. Crider was lodged at the Harlan County Detention Center and is being held on $150,000 cash bond. This investigation is being conducted by Detective Craig Miller.
