Harlan Woman Killed in a Collision on US 421

(Baxter, Ky.) - A single vehicle collision today on N US Highway 421 (Pine Mountain) has claimed the life of a Harlan woman. Kentucky State Police responded to the call around 5:55 p.m.
According to the report, a 2014 Buick Encore operated by Christina Holbrook, age 75, of Baxter, KY was traveling southbound on US 421. The vehicle left the right side of the roadway, striking an embankment. The vehicle came to final rest after the impact. Ms. Holbrook was removed from her vehicle by members of the Harlan County Rescue Squad and EMS personnel. Ms. Holbrook was transported to a nearby landing zone and airlifted to Holsten Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN by a Wings AirMed helicopter. Her condition is not available at this time.
A passenger in Holbrook's vehicle, Eula N. Brock, age 95, of Harlan, was pronounced dead at the scene by Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Rich Jr. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by KSP Accident Reconstructionist, Tpr. Kenneth Sergent. He was assisted on scene by KSP Sgt. Jeremy Lee, troopers Danny Caudill and Brandon Burton. Also assisting at the scene were deputies from Harlan County Sheriff's Office and members of the Bledsoe Fire Department.
