Foot Pursuit in Bell County

(Fourmile, Ky.) - On April 1, 2014 at 10:44 a.m Trooper Joey Brigmon from Post 10 Harlan was attempting to make a traffic stop for a speeding violation on U.S.25E in Bell County. Roger Ramey, 49, of Pineville was operating the vehicle when he pulled off U.S.25E into a driveway and exited his vehicle. Mr. Ramey began fleeing on foot then jumped into the Cumberland River. Troopers from Post 10 responded to the location to assist in apprehending Mr. Ramey from the river. Mr. Ramey refused to exit the river and remained in it for approximately one hour. Tpr. Brigmon and Tpr. Gregory put on life saving vest and entered into the river to apprehend Mr. Ramey. A short time later, troopers were able to arrest Mr. Ramey and take him to Pineville Hospital for medical treatment. Mr. Ramey was released from Pineville Hospital at approximately 4:00 p.m. and was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center.
K.S.P.was assisted at the scene by Bell County Sheriff's Department, Bell County Volunteer Fire Department, Bell County Rescue Squad, Bell County EMS, and Fish & Wildlife.
Mr. Ramey is charged with the following charges:
- Fleeing on foot 1st deg
- Disorderly Conduct
- Resisting Arrest
- 2 counts of wanton endangerment 1st deg
- 3 counts of criminal mischief 3rd deg
- Speeding 26 mph or over
- Expired Registration Plate
- Expired registration Receipt
- No insurance
- Failure or non owner to maintain Insurance
- DUI 1st
- Reckless Driving
- Possession of open alcohol in a vehicle
