Two Teenagers Killed in a Collision in Pike County

(Virgie, Ky.) -- On Friday June 14, 2013 at 2:05 A.M. Post 9, Pikeville received a call of a single vehicle accident at Ky Route 3501 and Ky 1469. Information obtained at the scene indicates that Jonathan Newsome 18 years old of Teaberry, Ky. was operating a 1999 Mustang traveling South on Ky 3501 when he failed to negotiate a turn onto Ky 1469. The vehicle that Newsome was operating then struck an earth embankment at the intersection of Ky 1469. Jonathan Newsome and passenger Alexandrea Tipton 18 years old of Harold, Ky. were pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts. The vehicle operated by Newsome was occupied with 7 passengers. Newsome and the seven occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seatbelt. The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Accident Reconstructionist Tpr. Bryan Layne. Tpr. Layne was assisted on scene by Tpr. Ryan Hamilton, Tpr. Nick Hale and Transtar Ambulance Service. At time of news release KSP did not have an update on the condition of the six passengers.
