Five Killed in a Residential Fire

(Jonancy, Ky.) -- On Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 2:27 A.M. Post 9 Pikeville received a 911 call of a residential fire on Elswicks Branch in the Jonancy community of Pike County. Shelby Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Kentucky State Police Post 9 Detectives responded to the scene. Information obtained at the scene indicates that a female had made her way out of the residence to get help for the adult male and four children that were possibly still inside the residence. The female was transported to Pikeville Medical Center where she was airlifted to UK Medical Center for her injuries. The female is listed in critical condition at this time. KSP Post 9 Detectives along with KSP Arson Investigator, State Fire Marshal and Pike County Coroners Office conducted a search of the residence and located the bodies of four children and one adult. The bodies were taken to the State Medical Examiner for positive identification. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. As new information becomes available it will be released.
