Injury Collision on KY 36 in Menifee County

Date of News Release: 12/04/2013

(Frenchburg, KY) - On December 4, 2013 at 3:28pm Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call from Menifee County Dispatch requesting assistance with a 2 vehicle injury accident on KY 36 in front of The Cornbread Cafe. Kentucky State Police, Menifee County Sheriff Department, Menifee County EMS and Menifee County Fire Dept responded to the scene. Through further investigation it was determined that Mr. Lonnie Sparks, 54 of Campton was operating a 2002 Honda Motorcycle Eastbound on KY 36 when Mr. James Driskell, 79 of Wellington attempted to make a left hand turn into the parking lot of The Cornbread Café causing the vehicles to collide. Mr. Driskell was operating a 2001 Toyota Echo westbound. Mr. Sparks made contact with the left front panel causing Mr. Sparks to go airborne and coming to a final rest in a nearby ditch. Mr. Sparks was airlifted from the scene to University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. Mr. Driskell was treated and released on scene. Accident remains under investigation under Trooper Nathan Shortridge.
