Two Killed in a Collision on I-64 in Bath County

(Morehead, KY) - On November 9, 2013, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 8 was notified by the Bath County 911 Dispatch of a fatality accident on I-64 at the 119 mile marker near Owingsville. Trooper Mike Armstrong and Trooper Mike Wathen responded to the scene. Ms. Morgan Michelle Hopkins, age 23 of Lexington, KY, was traveling eastbound on I-64 when the wheels of her Toyota Solara dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway and over-corrected causing her car to travel through the median and flip into the westbound lanes. Mr. James A. Weaver, age 77 of Wallingford, KY, was traveling westbound when his Chevy pickup was struck by the flipping vehicle. Ms. Hopkins was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from her car. Both vehicle operators were pronounced deceased at the the accident scene by Bath County Coroner Robbie Powell. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Neither operator is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Armstrong and Trooper Wathen.
