Fatal Collision on Slate Ave. in Owingsville

(Owingsville, KY) - On October 6, 2013 at 5:37 p.m., Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call from Bath County Dispatch of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian on Slate Ave. in Owingsville. Trooper Michael Armstrong responded to the scene along with Owingsville Police Department. Ray Ellis, 74 of Owingsville, was attempting to cross Slate Ave. when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound driven by a 17 year old juvenile. Mr. Ellis was struck by the front driver's side of the vehicle; the impact caused Mr. Ellis to hit the windshield. As the vehicle came to a stop, Mr. Ellis rolled off the driver's side of the vehicle striking the pavement. Mr. Ellis was transported via ambulance to Saint Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling with severe head trauma. Mr. Ellis was later transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington where he was pronounced deceased. No charges have been filed at this time pending further investigation. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Michael Armstrong.
