Nicholasville Woman Killed in a Collision on I-64

(Morehead, KY) -- On Saturday August 3, 2013 at 1230 hours Kentucky State Police Post 8 was contacted by Morehead Dispatch reference at multi-vehicle injury accident on Interstate 64 near the 143 mile marker. Trooper Jared Wagner, Unit 604, Trooper Patrick Zalone, Unit 535, Trooper Josh Preece, Unit 708, Trooper Michael Wathen, Unit 772, Detective Toby Gardner, Unit 472, Sergeant Jeff Lewis, Unit 183, Rowan County Coroner, John Northcutt, Rowan County EMS, Morehead Fire Department, and Olive Hill Fire Department responded to the scene. Mrs. Betty Mullins, 47 of Nicholasville was operating a 2012 Kia Sorento East Bound on Interstate 64 when she dropped of the left shoulder of the roadway and over-corrected. Mrs. Mullins then entered into the slow lane of East bound travel where she over-corrected again. Mrs. Mullins then crossed the median into oncoming West bound traffic where she collided with a 2000 Freightliner tractor trailer being operated by Mrs. Vicky Johnson, 52 of Silver Bay, Minnesota and a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban being operated by Bart Taylor, 41 of Oakland, Illinois. Mrs. Mullins was pronounced deceased on scene by Rowan County Coroner, John Northcutt. Mr. Taylor and his passenger, Glenna Taylor, 39 of Oakland, Illinois were transported from the scene to St. Claire Regional Medical Center and later air lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where they are currently listed in stable condition. Mrs. Johnson did not sustain any injuries from the accident and refused medical treatment. Accident remains under investigation by Detective Toby Gardner.
