West Liberty Man Killed in an ATV Collision

(WEST LIBERTY, KY) -- On April 20, 2013 at 9:45 P.M., Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead was contacted in reference to a fatal ATV accident that occurred at 3271 Ky 519 in West Liberty. Trooper Charles Bolin, Morgan County EMS, and Morgan County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. James D. Lewis, 30 of West Liberty was operating a 90cc off road ATV on his private property with his 5 year old son, when they attempted to climb an embankment. Mr. Lewis lost control of the ATV, throwing his 5 year old son, and resulted in the ATV overturning. Mr. Lewis and his 5 year old son were both thrown from the ATV, and the ATV landed on Mr. Lewis which resulted in fatal injury. Mr Lewis was pronounced deceased by Morgan County Coroner Raymond Vancleeve at 2128 hours. The juvenile was transported to Morgan ARH with minor injuries. Neither Mr. Lewis or his sons were wearing helmets during the accident, and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident. This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Charles Bolin.
