One Killed And One Injured In Big Clifty Crash

(BIG CLIFTY, KY.) -- On Saturday, August 10, 2013 at approximately 5:10 a.m. EST, Kentucky State Police Post 04 received a call in regard to an injury crash involving a train at the crossing on Hughes Mill Road. Carl Roof (62 yoa) was heading east when the 2000 Chevy Tahoe he was operating was struck by a southbound train. The vehicle was struck on the driver's side door causing it to overturn and come to rest on the south side of Hughes Mill Road next to the Railroad tracks. Mr. Roof was pronounced dead at the scene by Grayson County Deputy Coroner Larry Holeman. A juvenile passenger was airlifted to Kosair Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts. The investigation is ongoing by KSP Sgt. Greg Hill. KSP was assisted at the scene by Grayson County EMS and the Grayson County Coroners Office.
