Single-Vehicle Non-Injury Collision on the Pennyrile Parkway
Date of News Release: 05/11/2013
Mortons Gap, KY. (Hopkins County) -- The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle, non-injury collision that occurred on the Pennyrile Parkway, near the 36 mile marker, on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 8:13 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Ronnie Loy, 33 of Columbia, KY, was operating a 1998 Peterbuilt pulling a cattle trailer northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway when the tractor and trailer dropped off the left shoulder of the roadway causing it to overturn on its side in the median.
The semi was hauling 128 cows, of which approximately 20 escaped from the trailer after the collision. Several cows have been caught, but a few remain loose in the Mortons Gap area. The Pennyrile Parkway was shut down for approximately 8 hours while crews unloaded the remaining cattle from the trailer to be able to remove the tractor and trailer.
Mr. Loy, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured during the collision. There were no passengers.
Trooper Joseph Bartolotti investigated the collision. Sergeant Trent Weaver, Trooper Tim Sales, Trooper Jon McGehee, Trooper Jonathan Murphy, Trooper Jonathan Carlock, Nortonville Fire Department, Mortons Gap Fire Department, South Hopkins Fire Department, White Plains Fire Department, and the Kentucky Highway Department assisted at the scene.
