Two Vehicle Injury Collision on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway

Madisonville, KY. (Hopkins County) -- The Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle, injury collision that occurred at the 45 mile-marker on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway, on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11:45 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Robert E. Abell, age 73 of Rockvale, CO, was operating a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country van. Mr. Abell was stopped in the gore area between the northbound lanes of the parkway and the northbound exit lanes to US 41. Jeanetta Hollis, age 30 of Hanson, KY, was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu northbound in the right hand lane of the parkway.
Mr. Abell attempted to merge into the right, northbound lane and pulled into the path of Ms. Hollis' vehicle. The front corner passenger side of Ms. Hollis' vehicle struck the rear corner driver's side of Mr. Abell's vehicle. Mr. Abell's vehicle exited the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a road sign. It came to rest in the left exit lane of exit 45. Ms. Hollis' vehicle came to rest blocking both northbound lanes of the parkway.
Ms. Hollis was transported via ambulance to Baptist Health Madisonville for treatment. Mr. Abell and his passengers, Priscilla C. Abell (wife), age 72, and Kathryn A. Loyd, age 72 of Eldon, MO, were not injured. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Trooper Nick Rice conducted the investigation. Trooper First Class John Komar and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
