Trooper Barry Rice retires from the State Police

Trooper Barry Rice

(Hickory, KY.) The Kentucky State Police Post 1 honored Trooper Barry Rice in a ceremony on October 22, 2013. Trooper Rice retires October 31, 2013.

Trooper Rice began his career with the Kentucky State Police in February, 1999. After graduating from the Kentucky State Police Academy in September, 1999 he was assigned to the Mayfield Post.

Throughout his career he has had numerous assignments within the agency:

  • 1999-2006 Trooper, Post 1, Mayfield
  • 2006-2007 Trooper, Drivers Testing Branch
  • 2007-2009 Detective, Post 1, Mayfield
  • 2011-2013 Trooper, Post 1, Mayfield

During his tenure as a Detective, Rice received the Commissioner's Commendation for his work on a murder case in Trigg County in 2008.

Prior to becoming a Kentucky State Trooper, Rice worked for the Mayfield Police Department from August 1988 - February 1999. Rice also left the State Police from July 2009 till March 2011 where he served as the Mayfield Chief of Police. Rice was reinstated back as a Kentucky State Trooper in March 2011.

Trooper Rice resides in Graves County with his wife and two children.
